Lichfield Running Club was founded by Dave Lawton, Dave Nason, Mike Green and Dave Lewis in 1983. Lichfield Running Club members have been running and racing round Lichfield for over 35 years. Nowadays the club has more than 150 members, with weekly training sessions catering for a wide range of ability. Members also compete in races; the yellow Lichfield Running Club vest is regularly seen in local and national events.
Following the UK Government’s announcement on Monday 4 January of a new national lockdown, guidance issued by England Athletics for athletics and running has been updated to reflect these enforced Covid-19 restrictions across England. Under these restrictions we can run with members of our household or support bubble, or with one other person. All LRC club runs have, therefore, been cancelled for the foreseeable future. Full guidance from England Athletics can be found here.
We are aware that more people discovered running as a great form of exercise during 2020 and may be interested in joining our club. If so, please go to the “Join Us” page and follow the link to email our membership secretary. We’re keeping a list of people who are interested in joining and we’ll be in touch once we can run sessions again. Those interested in taking part in a beginners’ course should also contact the membership secretary.
Due to the lack of races we did not hold our usual Grand Prix, Time Trial and Off Road competitions for 2020. Instead, we held a one-off competition using actual and virtual races during the 2020 season. Provisional programmes for the 2021 season can be found on the appropriate ‘Competitions’ pages. Club members should also watch out for LRC e-mails regarding upcoming races and check the LRC Facebook page.
We have our own club Grand Prix championship with races ranging from 5km to half marathon, an Off-Road series, Time Trial series, and team events. We can currently cater for adult runners aged from 18 upwards. Younger runners should look at the Staffordshire Athletics Network.
Lichfield Running Club welcomes people of all abilities, although you need to be able to run 5 miles before you run with the main groups. We run regular beginners’ and novice courses to help you reach this level.
From the annual award ceremony, to post-race pub visits, to after training socials, Lichfield Running Club is friendly and welcoming.
